Many other traveling Broadway shows have been through the theater including Jersey Boys, Book of Mormon, Hamilton, and Wicked. The venue hosted the Broadway production of The Lion King after its reopening in 2004. The company operated until 1990 before closing down the venue due to its financial instability. Later in 1980, it was rededicated as a home to the Opera Company of Boston. Keith Memorial Theatre and for approx 50 years, it served as a movie theatre. ![]() The venue, when formed, was known as B.F. The architect of the building was designed by Thomas W.Lamb. The venue has a seating capacity of around 2,600 people at a time. The Boston Opera House is owned by the Boston Opera House Ventures, LLC. Later on, Mayor Thomas Menino put his efforts to restore the damaged venue at the cost of $38 million.
